Bobby Petrino Fired As Louisville Coach

Head coach Bobby Petrino of the Louisville Cardinals disputes a call during the first quarter against the Syracuse Orange at the Carrier Dome

The 2-8 Louisville Cardinals have fired head coach Bobby Petrino following the team's seventh loss in a row. The Cardinals have let up over 50 points in half of their games and only one of their losses was even close. In their previous two games against second-ranked Clemson and 12th ranked Syracuse they lost 77-16 and 54-23, respectively.

"We want to thank Bobby for guiding our football program to some of the better seasons we have had historically at UofL during his two separate tenures here," athletic director Vince Tyra said in a statement. "However, at this time we feel the program needs different leadership and we owe it to our student-athletes and fans to get this turned around."

The school has not announced who will replace Petrino for the remainder of the season, but Yahoo Sports reports that Lorenzo Ward will likely take the reigns.

Petrino's 77 wins as head coach ranks second-most all-time at the school, trailing only Frank Camp
