Tekashi Trial: 6ix9ine Turns On Former Crew, Outs Trippie Redd As Gangster

Celebrity Sightings in Los Angeles - November 8, 2018

On Tuesday (September 17), Tekashi 6ix9ine appeared as a government witness in federal court in Manhattan, where the rapper took the stand against two alleged members of the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods, and accused former rap rival Trippie Redd of gang involvement.

According to Matthew Russell Lee of the Inner City Press, who documented the courtroom play-by-play on Twitter, the star, born Daniel Hernandez, testified against Aljermiah Mack and Anthony Ellison, the men who allegedly abducted him last summer, which prompted Tekashi falling out with the gang days before he was arrested in November 2018 on racketeering and firearms charges, to which he pled guilty in February.

In court, Tekashi revealed he started speaking with authorities the day after his arrest.

When asked, the 23-year-old performer denied he was ever initiated into Nine Trey, but merely served as the financial supporter of the group, due to his viral fame and music success. "I just had to keep making hits and giving financial support to the gang," Tekashi reportedly told the judge. "Equipping with guns. Like, so they could buy guns."

According to the New York Times, however, Tekashi does testify to participating in the gang's activities, which included "lots of crimes … Robberies, assaults, drugs." When asked how he benefited from his gangster persona, he answered: "My career. I got the street credibility. The videos, the music, the protection — all of the above."

Lastly, Tekashi explained how he recruited Nine Trey members and used real guns for his now-viral music video for "GUMMO," a diss track aimed at Trippie, whom the 23-year-old claimed was a gang member as well. "It's a diss song, toward like somebody I don't get along with," the emcee said of the song's origins, before revealing, "Trippie Redd was part of Five Nine Brims."

Tekashi's trial will continue when he takes the witness stand on Wednesday (September 18).
