Wynonna Judd is still trying to “make peace” with unanswered questions after losing her mother, Naomi Judd, earlier this year. Wynonna and her sister, actress Ashley Judd, said in a heartbreaking statement at the time that they’d lost their mother after a long battle with mental illness. She was 76.
Wynonna, who performed alongside Naomi in the iconic mother-daughter duo The Judds, said in a new interview with PEOPLE that she “can't quite wrap my head around it and I don't know that I ever will. That she left the way she did. That's how baffling and cunning mental illness is. You have to make peace with the fact that you don't know. Sometimes there are no answers.” The “Why Not Me” artist continued, remembering her mother’s “determination” in every part of her life, including that “she was determined to die. It's so hard to comprehend how someone can be so strong and yet so vulnerable.”

Wynonna recently opened up about losing Naomi in another interview, meeting with Lee Cowan of CBS Sunday Morning. She recently began “The Final Tour,” which was supposed to be a reunion tour with Naomi. The Judds made the announcement shortly before Naomi died in April. Wynonna said she has “no idea” what to expect, but believes it’s “important” to go on the tour in her mom’s honor.
She admitted in her interview with Cowan that she’s “incredibly angry” as she navigates life without Naomi, and still feels her presence. “The Final Tour” now includes special guest Martina McBride, along with Brandi Carlile, Ashley McBryde, Kelsea Ballerini, Little Big Town, Trisha Yearwood and Faith Hill on select tour dates.
