TMSG: Dallas Community Raises $100K To Help Local Business

During the pandemic, Howdy Homemade in Dallas announced that it was having to close due to lack of sales.

The ice cream company employs adults with special needs. But because of the pandemic, their shop wasn't able to stay open. When his community and strangers heard about the bad situation, the donations started pouring in. They donated more than $100,000, allowing the ice cream spot to open in a new, smaller shop in Dallas and keep everyone employed.

The act of the community inspired the company, even one of the employees Kalin O'Brien donated $3,000 to shop owner Tom Landis. He shared with Dallas CBS, "He helped me move up to shop manager and has helped me out with a lot of things and given me gifts so I thought you know, maybe I needed to do something for him."
