Brett Young has always had a tremendous amount of respect and gratitude for our military men and women because of the many generations in his family who have served. But Brett admits, “Memorial Day is interesting for me because I guess I’m one of the fortunate ones, that as far back as I know, in my family we haven’t had any significant loss in terms of somebody serving our country. And I go back and forth between feeling fortunate and feeling guilty for that because I know so many families have lost so many loved ones that have served our country.”
Ultimately, Brett says, “I guess where I’ve landed with it all is just feeling grateful. It’s a day for me to feel appreciative for the freedoms that have been given me because of all those people. And you know, I wouldn’t get to do what I do and I wouldn’t get to enjoy the freedoms that I do if there weren’t people that had gone and made those sacrifices.”
Realizing that, Brett is thankful for the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and he says, “Once I kind of realized that (Memorial Day is) about the freedoms we enjoy in this country, it became a really, really special holiday for me.”
