McDonald's announced that most of its U.S. restaurants will soon have extended hours of operation.
A McDonald's spokesperson told the Independent that global fast food chain said a "vast majority" of U.S. restaurants will stay open until or after midnight beginning this summer. The extended hours will feature most of the signature menu items, however, the spokesperson said individual franchisees would ultimately make those decisions.
Restaurants in "non-traditional locations," such as airport or mall food courts, will be exceptions to the new rule, but "will be back open during normal breakfast hours." McDonald's will also offer a giveaway on May 24 in which concert-goers in Los Angeles, New York City and Detroit can get merchandise and gift cards for free McCrispy Strips.
The fast food chain will also give away 1,000 virtual gift cards for free McCrispy Strips on May 24. McDonald's extended hours announcement came after it had already announced plans to hire 375,000 employees at its restaurants nationwide, its biggest hiring push in several years, as well as plans to open 9,000 by 2027, while currently estimated to have 13,500 in the U.S. alone.
“McDonald's has a 70-year legacy of innovation, leadership, and proven agility, all of which give us confidence in our ability to navigate even the toughest of market conditions and gain market share,” said McDonald’s CEO Chris Kempczinski in a statement to the Independent.
