Carly Pearce revealed some of the surprising feedback she received before she became a major country star, and why she believes “don’t take no for an answer.”

The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter advised others, “don’t take no for an answer,” as she shared a few stories on TikTok on Tuesday evening (August 5). Pearce listed “some things that I was told before I made it in Nashville,” and before she signed her record deal eight years ago.

“I once had someone tell me after they heard five songs, [including ‘Every Little Thing’], that I didn’t have any songs that were special. And that song became my very first No. 1 single,” Pearce said, in part. “I was told that I was ‘dated’ because I sang country music. This was in the time of bro country. I took a job working for Lucy Hale as a backup singer, and was told that was going to kill my career. And that actually started to help me gain fans.

“So, for any of you guys out there with a dream or feel like it’s not gonna happen for you, please listen to this and understand it can literally happen overnight,” Pearce said. “‘Every Little Thing’ changed my entire life in 12 hours. It can change yours, too.”

TikTok commenters applauded Pearce’s encouragement and inspiration, including other artists. Former Team Blake Shelton contestant on The Voice, Emily Ann Roberts, said “honestly I hate this town 😂 this is insane.” Kelsea Ballerini said this is “reason 48193782 why i love you.”

Pearce released “Every Little Thing” in 2017, and since then, the superstar singer-songwriter has become known for career-spanning hits like “truck on fire,” “What He Didn’t Do,” “Never Wanted To Be That Girl” with Ashley McBryde, “we don’t fight anymore” with Chris Stapleton (and featuring Hale in the music video), and many more. Pearce scored her first Grammy Award in 2023, in addition to many CMA, ACM and CMT awards, among other accolades. Find Pearce’s music on iHeartRadio here, and watch her TikTok below.
